SpaceX Operations Engineer Role
This role supports the Process and Material Planning team at the Rocket Development and Test facility, working across site functions such as supply chain, fabrication, propellant systems, and test equipment engineering. The operations engineer will apply engineering principles and data science skills to analyze, build tools, and design processes for efficient and agile operations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and maintain analytical tools using SQL, Python, and Excel to support planning, supply chain, test, and operations decisions.
* Create department-level metrics to measure operation health and inform changes for reliability, cost, and agility improvement.
* Design and maintain data visualizations using Grafana and PowerBI software tools.
* Support ad-hoc data analysis requests from leadership to drive headcount, labor allocation, cost-saving, and project management decisions.
* Lead process improvement initiatives to minimize waste, increase cost savings, improve safety, increase agility, and eliminate production hurdles.
* Foster alignment with supply chain, test, launch, and fabrications teams across SpaceX sites to reduce duplicated work.
* Support planners during times of increased part/process demand.
* Facilitate knowledge transfer when new software functionality is rolled out or best practices are proven.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
* Bachelor's degree in engineering or a scientific discipline.
* At least 1 year of experience in production, manufacturing, operations, or supply chain roles.
* Proficiency in using Excel, SQL, or Python for data analysis or project scheduling.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
* On-the-floor manufacturing, logistics, or warehouse experience.
* Experience creating and maintaining SQL databases.
* Knowledge of data visualization tools like Power BI, Tableau, Grafana.
* Exposure to enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
* Experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
* Process mapping and process improvement experience.
* Ability to prioritize tasks and projects effectively.
* Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environments.
* Experience contributing to cross-functional teams.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
* Ability to lift lightweight supplies or materials (up to 25lbs unassisted).
* Willingness to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
* Flexibility to travel up to 5-10%.
* Position based in McGregor, TX; onsite presence required.
