The key duties of the position include:

The Information and Communication Technology Group (ICTG) is responsible for the strategic ICT capability and delivery of technology services at the AIHW. The group supports the Institute’s data, analytics and research capabilities through secure, scalable and reliable digital platforms and infrastructure.

The Infrastructure and Operations Unit manages ICT infrastructure and cloud services across the AIHW environment, including platforms hosted within AWS and Microsoft Azure. The unit is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security and continuous improvement of infrastructure services that support the Institute’s critical systems and data assets.

The ICT Group is seeking a Lead Cloud Engineer (EL1) with strong experience in AWS and Microsoft Azure to join the Infrastructure and Operations Unit.

In this role, you will lead a cloud engineering team responsible for designing, building, and operating secure cloud infrastructure within a complex enterprise environment. The position is hands-on and involves cloud engineering, automation, CI/CD pipelines, and platform uplift initiatives. You will work closely with internal technical teams and stakeholders to deliver cloud solutions that support the Institute’s strategic priorities.

You will also act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for cloud infrastructure and contribute to improving engineering practices across the ICT Group.

Under general direction you will:

* Lead a small team of cloud engineers to design, implement and support AWS and Microsoft Azure infrastructure within an enterprise environment.
* Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code and automation to support cloud platform delivery.
* Build and manage CI/CD pipelines with embedded security and compliance controls.
* Troubleshoot infrastructure and platform issues and work closely with internal technical teams and business stakeholders.
* Produce high quality technical documentation including architecture artefacts, diagrams, procedures and operational guides.
* Contribute to infrastructure design, risk management and technical decision making.
* Support continuous improvement of cloud engineering practices, platform reliability and operational capability.
* Provide mentoring and knowledge sharing within the Infrastructure and Operations team.
Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for this vacancy, you must:

* obtain and maintain a valid Security Clearance if required by the institute

A probationary period of six (6) months will apply to any new engagement to the APS.
