Job Description
As a skilled-level technician, you will be responsible for performing diagnoses and repairs in all areas, as well as being specialized in particular areas of repair.
1. You will perform work as outlined on repair orders with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
2. You will diagnose the cause of any malfunction and perform the necessary repair.
3. You will communicate with the parts department to obtain needed parts.
4. You will save and tag parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.
5. You will examine assigned vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.
6. You will communicate with the service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.
7. You will document all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
8. You will road test vehicles when required or refer to the test technician.
9. You will participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
10. You will keep abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.
11. You will supervise the work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.
12. You will report machinery defects or malfunctions to your supervisor.
13. You will ensure that customers' cars are kept clean. You will notify the service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.
14. You will keep the shop area neat and clean.
15. You will maintain and be accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. You will return them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.
16. You will understand, keep abreast of, and comply with federal, state, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
17. You will operate all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
18. You will report any safety issues immediately to management.
Required Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have previous experience at an automotive dealership, a strong understanding of the service drive, dexterity, mechanical and troubleshooting skills, excellent customer service skills, basic computer competencies, a positive and friendly attitude, and the ability to learn new technology and procedures.
