About the position

The Mullewa Youth Development Officer plays an essential role in leading the operations of the Mullewa Youth Centre, ensuring that young people are offered appropriate programs that support life skills development opportunities, recreational activities, training options, and access to information to support young people and their families. The youth centre operates primarily in the afternoons, and the Officer is expected to lead and support programming during these hours.

This position is offered as a permanent, full-time opportunity. The Mullewa Youth Development Officer plays an essential role in leading the operations of the Mullewa Youth Centre, ensuring that young people are offered appropriate programs that support life skills development opportunities, recreational activities, training options, and access to information to support young people and their families. The youth centre operates primarily in the afternoons, and the Officer is expected to lead and support programming during these hours.

Key Accountabilities
* Oversee the day-to-day operations and management of the Mullewa Youth Centre in accordance with the City's requirements and in accordance with contractual requirements determined by the funding body for the centre.
* Ensure the operation of the Youth Centre as per opening hours.
* Supervise fixed-term and casual staff, trainees, and volunteers to deliver youth engagement and diversionary activities at the Youth Centre and at other recreation venues across Mullewa.
* Attend interagency meetings and liaise with key stakeholders to support coordinated youth service responses in Mullewa, including engagement with service providers and the appropriate sharing of information to support young people and their families.
* Research, develop, implement, and report on a range of diversionary and engagement programs and activities for youth at risk.

Position Requirements

We are seeking a candidate with proven experience in youth development, ideally supported by a qualification in Youth Work, Social Work or Community Services. We also recognise that valuable skills and knowledge can be gained through lived experience and practical work; therefore, applicants without formal qualifications but with strong, relevant experience are encouraged to apply.

The ability to communicate effectively and build rapport with young people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, including Aboriginal youth is essential. Experience in developing and delivering diversionary programs and activities for at risk youth will be highly regarded.

Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.

Remuneration And Benefits

The Mullewa Youth Development Officer has a salary starting from $89,127 per annum or $45.1046 per hour, offered dependent on knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications.
