* THE POSITION: The role involves sampling and analysis to meet the requirements of Waterview Laboratory. This includes support to the Water and Wastewater team as well as other departments within AlburyCity.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Chemical and microbiological analysis of water and wastewater samples
* Collection of samples including, when required, preservation and pre-treatment
* Perform all work according to the laboratory quality system and to it maintains NATA ISO 17025 accreditation
* Data entry and reporting of results
* Equipment and instrument validation, calibration, and maintenance
* Ordering of laboratory consumables and maintaining the laboratory fit for purpose
* Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Coordinator which are within the limits of the employee's skill, competence, and training
* Research strategies and strive to continuously improve the operation of the laboratory
* Liaise with internal and external customers as required on operational issues
* Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS.
* Observe appropriate AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding day to day operations including Equal Employment Opportunity policies, AlburyCity's Dress Code and Standards Policy and AlburyCity's Code of Conduct.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
* Based on a 35 hour week, with actual days and times being Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 4.00pm, with an RDO in accordance with AlburyCity's RDO guidelines. The exact times can be negotiated with the supervisor.
* This position requires you to wear a compulsory uniform as per AlburyCity's Our People Dress Code Standards. Our People are required to present a smart and professional image to the public at all times including when in public and when working remotely.
* This position will be provided with vaccination against the following infectious diseases:
o Hepatitis A
o Hepatitis B
* This position involves working both indoor and outdoor. In addition to computer work, a moderate amount of physical activity may also be required, depending on the nature of the tasks undertaken. Appropriate WHS standards will be applied for all manual handing activity. A full functional and medical assessment is required for this position.
* This position is delegated with certain powers, authorities, duties and functions of Council under the AlburyCity Delegations of Authority in accordance with section 378 of the Local Government Act.
* This position is subject to alcohol and other drug testing
* This position is located at Waterview Laboratory, Laboratory Lane, West Albury with occasional visits to external sites/depots, and AlburyCity Administration Building as required.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
* Certificate IV in Laboratory Techniques or equivalent work experience
* Class C (standard) Driver's Licence (compulsory to have and maintain)
DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
* Experience in water testing and environment will be highly regarded
* Tertiary qualifications in Chemistry / Environmental Science or related discipline
EXPERIENCE:
* Relevant experience in a similar role at a NATA accredited laboratory
SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
* Demonstrated experience and understanding in;
o Chemical analysis
o Water and wastewater sampling and analysis including BOD, COD, solids and nutrients.
o NATA ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation
o Maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory and analytical instruments.
o Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
o Interpretation of results, reporting and recording
* High level of computer literacy in the use of a variety of software applications including MS Office Suite
* Sound knowledge in environmental or water and wastewater processes
