Task & responsibilities
* Prepare, cook, and present menu items in accordance with café standards
* Ensure consistency in the quality, taste, and presentation of food
* Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen in accordance with food safety standards
* Assist in menu planning, recipe development, and special event catering
* Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering, and minimise food waste
* Ensure all food is prepared on time and served promptly during service hours
* Supervise and support junior kitchen staff where applicable
* Work collaboratively with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service delivery
Qualification & experience
* Minimum 2 years’ experience in a commercial kitchen, preferably in a café or casual dining setting
* Knowledge of café cuisine, modern Australian dishes, and breakfast/lunch menus
* Understanding of food safety, hygiene practices, and kitchen procedures
* Ability to work under pressure during peak service hours
* Strong communication and teamwork skills
* Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and public holidays
* Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent (preferred)
* Food Safety Supervisor certification is desirable
