Chief Executive Officer - The Arnhem Land Progress Aboriginal Corporation
The Arnhem Land Progress Aboriginal Corporation (ALPA) is Australia's largest independent First Nations corporation and a community-controlled organisation with a proud history of delivering meaningful economic, social and health outcomes for Yolŋu and other remote First Nations communities. ALPA operates a diverse portfolio of commercial and community enterprises across retail, community services, training, nutrition, construction and economic development. Guided by its purpose of bridging Yolŋu and Western world views, ALPA reinvests profits back into member communities to create jobs, build skills, improve food security and support long-term independence, wellbeing and opportunity.
ALPA is seeking an exceptional Chief Executive Officer to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight across the corporation's multi-divisional operations. Reporting to a community-elected Board, the CEO is responsible for translating Board priorities into action, ensuring financial sustainability, strong governance, and culturally grounded service delivery. The role leads an experienced Executive Team and holds ultimate accountability for organisational performance, compliance, risk management and safety.
Based in Darwin with regular travel to remote communities, the CEO will champion the "One ALPA, One Vision" approach while strengthening ALPA's reputation as a national leader in community-controlled enterprise, nutrition, economic development and remote service delivery.
You will be a values-driven senior executive with proven experience leading complex, multi-million-dollar organisations through growth, change and operational complexity. You bring strong commercial and financial acumen, sound governance and risk management capability, and a demonstrated ability to balance commercial discipline with community benefit.
Critical to success is your commitment to culturally safe leadership, your willingness to listen and learn, and your ability to build respectful, trusted relationships with First Nations communities, Boards, governments and partners. You are an inclusive, decisive leader who develops high-performing teams, communicates with clarity and integrity, and leads with accountability, safety and purpose at the centre of decision-making.
This is a rare opportunity to lead a nationally significant First Nations organisation and make a lasting impact across remote communities. If you are motivated by purpose-led leadership and have the capability to guide ALPA into its next chapter, we encourage you to apply. Confidential enquiries and applications are welcomed from leaders who share ALPA's vision of strong businesses, strong communities and a stronger future.
To ensure a rigorous and comprehensive search, ALPA has engaged Six Degrees Executive Search to lead the recruitment process for this appointment.
All applications will be treated confidentially and only those with the rights to work full time in Australia will be considered.
ALPA is an equal opportunity employer, and we encourage people from diverse backgrounds to apply. We also encourage people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background to apply.
