Role Description
Deakin University is seeking a PhD Student to contribute to its research endeavours at the Geelong, VIC campus. This on-site role involves undertaking original research, collaborating with academic supervisors, and contributing to the broader research community through presentations and publications. Responsibilities include conducting literature reviews, performing experiments or theoretical studies, analysing data, and preparing academic papers and reports. The candidate will also participate in seminars, workshops, and other academic activities relevant to their research area to foster professional development.
Qualifications
* Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‐solving skills with the ability to design and conduct independent research.
* Proficiency in research methodologies, data collection, and analysis techniques relevant to the field of study.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills for academic writing, presentations, and collaboration with peers and supervisors.
* Time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines and manage multiple research tasks effectively.
* A Master's or Honours degree in a related field (or equivalent research experience) is required.
* Familiarity with academic publishing and conference presentations is an advantage.
* Enthusiasm for contributing to impactful research within a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment.

The projects would suit students with interests in one or more of the following areas:
* epigenetics, developmental origins of health and disease, twin research, longitudinal cohort studies, bioinformatics or biostatistics
* microbiome, early-life development, pregnancy, child health or molecular epidemiology
* non-invasive biosampling, cytology, cell preservation, microscopy, flow cytometry or cell-based diagnostics
I can provide scholarship support for suitable domestic applicants. Overseas applicants are also welcome to contact me, but they would need to apply for a Deakin University Postgraduate Research Scholarship themselves.
