Responsibilities
* Treat animals medically and surgically, administer and prescribe drugs, analgesics, general and local anaesthetics.
* Determine the presence and nature of abnormal conditions by physical examination, laboratory testing and diagnostic imaging (radiography, ultrasound).
* Perform surgery, dress wounds, set broken bones, and provide obstetric services.
* Participate in programs designed to prevent the occurrence and spread of animal diseases.
* Inoculate animals against, test for, and report infectious diseases and outbreaks to authorities.
* Perform autopsies to determine cause of death.
* Advise clients on health, nutrition, hygiene, breeding and animal care.
* Provide professional services to commercial firms producing biological and pharmaceutical products.
* Specialise in a particular animal group or specialty area (cardiology, ophthalmology, surgery, oncology, radiology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, chiropractic, dermatology, critical care).

Requirements
* Minimum 1 year of experience in small-animal practice; 2 years for ECC veterinarians; 3 years for specialists.
* Bachelor of Veterinary Science or Doctor of Veterinary Medicine accredited with the AVBC, and/or completion of the NAVLE, AVE examination and eligibility for registration in the State.
* International veterinarians with a minimum of 1 year full-time post-qualification experience may be eligible for sponsorship.
