About the Role This opportunity is suited to an experienced Finance Officer or Project Finance Support professional seeking exposure within a large-scale government environment. You will play a key role in supporting month-end processes, maintaining financial integrity across project codes, and acting as a central contact point for operational finance queries. Working closely with project teams and senior finance leaders, you will ensure financial transactions are processed accurately and in line with compliance requirements. Position: Assistant Accountant – $624/day Location: Sydney NSW Working Arrangement: Hybrid working environment Start Date: ASAP End Date: 27 August 2026 (potential extension) Application Deadline: Monday 4pm Key Responsibilities Support month-end close activities, including preparation and posting of journals Assist with balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis Provide guidance to internal stakeholders regarding accounts payable, accounts receivable and project expenditure matters Manage and respond to enquiries within the Project Finance shared inbox Create, amend and close project codes in financial systems Monitor project financial performance and escalate discrepancies Process accruals, adjustments and reclassifications as required Partner with project coordinators and managers to ensure accurate cost allocation Maintain accurate financial records in SAP Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within finance processes Provide ad-hoc analytical and administrative support to the Finance Manager and Senior Accountant Ensure compliance with NSW Government financial policies and delegations About You Demonstrated experience in a finance officer, assistant accountant or project finance support role Strong hands-on experience using SAP, including journal posting Proven exposure to month-end processes within a medium to large organisation Solid understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger functions Experience supporting project-based financial reporting is highly regarded High attention to detail with strong reconciliation skills Ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment Strong stakeholder engagement and written communication skills Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel capability Willingness to undergo a National Criminal Record Check and provide two recent professional references.
