Primary objective
Provide leadership in the areas of school strategic planning, fiscal management, curriculum, pedagogy, assessment, human
resource management and pastoral care for Teaching Principals and Teaching staff in small remote schools to enable the
ongoing improvement in educational outcomes for remote Indigenous students.

Context statement
The Remote Schools Support Unit supports 22 small remote schools located in Central Australian Indigenous Communities.
The Remote Schools Support Unit is located in Alice Springs. Specialist staff operate from this base providing educational,
administrative and pastoral support to schools. This Remote Schools Support Unit works very closely with the Senior
Director School Improvement and Leadership and the Network Leaders to co-design, implement and monitor school
improvement strategies.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide support and leadership to Teaching Principals in matters relating to remote school operations, strategic plans,

operational plans, implementation plans, human resources, fiscal management and pastoral care to ensure consistency in
school management.

2. Assist the Director Remote Schools Support Unit with implementing recommendations from school reviews, recruiting
of Teaching Principals, HR management of remote school staff, including teacher probation, staff professional learning,
implement professional growth plans with Teaching Principals and assist them to develop performance growth plans with
staff in line with the School Improvement Plan.

3. Support schools with curriculum implementation, data gathering, quality teaching and learning, assessment and reporting
in line with the agreed School Improvement Plan.

4. Facilitate and support the implementation of whole school programs in consultation with the Teaching Principal and
school staff.

5. Work collaboratively with key stakeholders to identify each school's needs and priorities for service from business units
across the department.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Registration with the NT Teacher Registration Board and a current Working with Children Clearance Notice (Ochre Card).
2. Successful experience working within a cross-cultural school environment and a demonstrated ability to interact

effectively with people of diverse cultures to support the delivery of high quality and relevant learning programs for all
students.

3. Highly developed knowledge and skills as an educator and proven record in building instructional capacity in others.
4. Demonstrated understanding of the challenges associated with the delivery of education in small remote schools.
5. Demonstrated skills in change management, strategic thinking and data analysis to set direction and inform improvement

within individual schools and networks of schools.

Further information
Extensive travel to remote locations in 4WD and or on light planes often alone is an essential component. Overnight
accommodation may require camping in schools, and/or shared facilities. This position attracts office-based conditions. The
successful applicant will be required to adhere to and model the NTPS Code of Conduct (refer advertising attachments), the
Education Act, Financial Management Act, Public Sector Employment Management Act and other relevant legislation with the
utmost integrity. The successful applicant will also hold specific delegations under the abovementioned Acts and will
therefore be required to understand and follow these to maintain accountability.
