The Justice and Equity Centre (JEC) is a leading social justice law and policy centre. We build a fairer, stronger society by helping to change laws, policies and practices that cause injustice and inequality.

We offer a diverse and inclusive workplace where:

* Wellbeing is actively promoted and flexibility is supported
* We are committed to the professional development of our staff
* Advantageous salary packaging options are available

The Homeless Persons' Legal Service (HPLS) protects the rights of people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, and helps people avoid or exit homelessness.  We do this by providing free legal assistance, advice and representation to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and supporting advocates with lived experience to drive change and challenge systemic barriers that prevent people from having a safe, secure and healthy home.

The Client Intake Officer plays a vital frontline role, conducting legal triage, intake, and coordinating referrals for people accessing our service. Additionally, you will:

* Provide trauma-informed, accessible, efficient and effective intake services to those seeking assistance
* Respond in a timely manner to enquiries via phone, email or in-person by people seeking assistance, or their referrers.
* Provide referrals to a range of internal and external services to assist clients with their related needs, including the monitoring of referral effectiveness within the scope of the position
* Supervise law student volunteers, and other staff, guiding them in trauma-informed and client-centred practices, and helping clients navigate the often complex legal assistance landscape

The ideal candidate will have well-developed interpersonal and client management skills, including in working with people who have complex needs and challenging presentations. You will also have:

* Experience working in housing and homelessness, and/or knowledge of the homelessness and housing-service sector or experience working in a community legal centre
* High-quality verbal and written communication skills, including capturing and collating data, contributing to reporting, and delivering training
* Skills in MS Office software, appointment scheduling, and the use of our case management platforms
* Ability to maintain confidential and accurate records

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people with disability are strongly encouraged to apply.

If you would like to advocate for people experiencing homelessness, please send your resume along with a covering letter and responses to the knowledge, skills and experience section included in the position description.
