Candidates must have completed eight (8) years of approved and appropriate teaching and/or administrative experience, at least four (4) years of which must have been at an administrative level.
Candidates should have the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with others and the ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
Candidates with experience in teaching and/or supervision of instructional programs serving English language learners are preferred or candidates with certifications in world languages, bilingual education, or ESL are preferred.ResponsibilitiesThe Assistant Superintendent of Multilingual Education has primary responsibility for program design, implementation and staff development for English language learner (ELL) programs at both the elementary and secondary levels, and will work with staff, community organizations, and agencies that serve the major language groups within the city of Buffalo.The Duties And Responsibilities For This Position AreMonitors the effective implementation of ENL programs, bilingual programs, and the Native American Resource ProgramSupervises staff development activities for teachers and administrators in the areas of multilingual education including bilingual education and ENL.Shares research-based effective practices for working with multilingual studentsProjects ongoing costs and budgets for all programs serving multilingual students.Oversees all departmental finances, including O&M, Title III, and Title VIAssists the District in making cost projections and meeting cost expenditure requirements.Monitors the acquisition and distribution of instructional materials for all multilingual education programs.Leads the effective implementation of all regulations pertaining to Part 154 and Title III and assists schools in their implementation efforts.Monitors the student placement program as it pertains to multilingual studentsEnsures appropriate staffing as it pertains to ENL and bilingual programsAssists in the recruitment of bilingual and ENL teachersEnsures the provision of translation and interpretation servicesMonitors out-of-school programming as it related to multilingual learners (e.g., after school, Saturdays, summer)Analyzes and uses data pertaining to ELLs, including graduation rates, NYSITELL and NYSESLAT results, to inform the work of the DivisionLeads in the establishment and implementation of effective instructional programs for Students with Interrupted Formal Education (SIFE).Participates as a District representative and/or resource person in meetings and activities of school/community agencies, and advisory groups (MEAC).Represents the Department of Multilingual Education in compliance requirement audits conducted by State and Federal agencies.Assists other Offices/Divisions in developing instructional programs and eligibility guidelines for English Language Learner students as related to Part 154 and Title III regulations.Monitors the implementation of school based TESOL certification programs.Answers questions of the media on issues related to bilingual and English as a New Language (ENL) education.Other duties as assigned by the Chief Academic OfficerAppointmentAppointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following the assessment of training, experience, credentials, evaluation of service, program needs, and personal interview.SALARY: Per Administrator salary scheduleFUNDING: Pending fundingFINAL DATE FOR FILLING: MAY 15, 2025DR.
