Great work-life balance | Flexible working options available
Are you an accounting professional who loves partnering with people, shaping long‑term financial outcomes, and turning complex asset data into meaningful insights?
We’re looking for a Finance Business Partner specialising in Assets, who can bring technical excellence, strong stakeholder relationships, and a passion for improving systems and processes. This is a fantastic opportunity to work across major capital, asset, and financial planning functions while contributing to the long‑term sustainability of our city.
Key aspects of the role:
* Lead asset accounting and financial integrity – Take ownership of asset capitalisation, depreciation, revaluations and disposals within TechOne, ensuring every transaction is compliant with the Local Government Act and Australian Accounting Standards. You’ll be the go‑to expert for accurate asset financial data, supporting audit requirements and strengthening Council’s financial position.
* Shape the 10‑year Capital Program – Work closely with the Assets and Projects Team to develop and maintain a rolling long‑term capital program that captures all renewal and growth projects. You’ll analyse project costs, timing, and long‑term impacts to ensure the program remains financially sustainable, strategically aligned and ready for integration into the long‑term financial plan.
* Deliver financial modelling and strategic analysis – Provide high‑quality financial modelling, scenario testing and forecasting to inform major decisions. You’ll prepare clear, insightful reports that help leaders understand financial implications, optimise funding use, and plan effectively for both day‑to‑day operations and long‑term investment.
* Monitor developer contributions and associated expenditure – Track all monetary contributions from developers, ensuring accurate recognition, reporting and alignment with approved capital works. You’ll maintain oversight of balances, expenditure and timing, enabling transparent, compliant and timely use of these funds.
* Build financial capability across the organisation – Strengthen financial literacy by coaching, guiding and partnering with service managers and stakeholders. You’ll translate complex concepts into practical insights, help teams understand financial performance, and support improved budgeting, planning and decision‑making across Council.
What we’re looking for:
We’re seeking a finance professional who brings both technical capability and a collaborative approach. You’ll be a great fit if you:
* Bring strong accounting foundations, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications and progress toward CA, CPA or CFA.
* Have practical experience in financial or asset accounting, including budgeting, forecasting, modelling or analysis in a complex environment.
* Communicate financial concepts clearly, translating detailed data into meaningful insights for non‑financial stakeholders.
* Build trusted relationships across the organisation, partnering with teams to improve financial literacy and support informed decision‑making.
* Work proactively and independently, managing competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy, attention to detail and professional judgement.
* Demonstrate Wodonga Council’s values of trust, respect, integrity and learning in your everyday work and interactions.
