Summary

The WHS Coordinator reports to the Corporate Services Manager and is responsible for the coordination of Eleanor Duncan Aboriginal Services' Work Health and Safety management system. This hands-on role spans incident management, supporting the HR Manager with return-to-work coordination, risk assessment, policy and procedure development, compliance monitoring, and WHS training. The role sits within the Corporate Services team supporting the HR Manager and Line Managers with return-to-work processes. The role offers genuine scope to build and strengthen WHS systems in a growing Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation.

The role reports to the Corporate Services Manager.

Responsibilities

* Monitor compliance with the WHS Improvement Plan, including mandatory training
* Coordinate and maintain EDAS's WHS Management System, ensuring it remains current, compliant, and fit for purpose
* Monitor and communicate changes to WHS legislation, regulations, and industry standards relevant to EDAS operations, and ensure the WHS Management System reflects current requirements
* Review WHS incidents from time of occurrence through to cause identification and preventive action
* Prepare WHS reports on incidents, near misses, corrective actions, and management system performance for internal reporting
* Prepare reports for the CEO to present to the Board and relevant committees
* Support the HR Manager and Line Managers to Coordinate return to work processes, liaising with rehabilitation providers, workers compensation insurers, treating parties, managers, and affected staff
* Drive risk assessment processes across EDAS worksites and programs
* Coordinate evacuation planning, warden appointments, drills, WHS inductions and training
* Review, develop, and contribute to WHS policies, procedures, and work instructions
* Source and coordinate essential WHS training for EDAS staff and maintain the training register in collaboration with HR Manager and Executive Leadership Team
* Conduct internal WHS audits and report outcomes to the WHS Committee
* Conduct workplace assessments where risks are identified
* Support the Corporate Services Manager, HR Manager and Senior leaders with WHS advice and administration as directed

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

* Qualification in Work Health and Safety or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience
* Demonstrated WHS experience in a similar role
* Hands-on experience in return-to-work coordination
* Demonstrated knowledge of NSW WHS legislation and regulatory standards
* Experience establishing or maintaining WHS frameworks against regulatory requirements
* Demonstrated experience researching, developing, and writing WHS policies, procedures, and work instructions
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to prepare clear reports and correspondence for senior leadership
* Competency in Microsoft 365 applications including Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Teams
* Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain strong organisational systems
* Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills
* Current NSW Driver's Licence
* Satisfactory Police Check
* Valid Australian working rights
* Valid Working With children checks
* NDIS Worker screening check

Desirable

* Experience working in or with an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation
* Demonstrated cultural awareness and commitment to working in a culturally responsive and respectful manner
* Understanding of the social determinants of health and their relevance to WHS practice in community-controlled settings
* Aboriginality
