Carer
Posted: 13 December
Offer description

Turn your lived experience into hope for others.

MIFWA is looking for a Carer Peer Facilitator to co‑create a safe, supportive space for families, carers and friends of people living with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). If you've walked this path yourself, you know how confusing, distressing and isolating it can be. This role exists so others don't have to do it alone.

About the role

You will facilitate a monthly BPD Support Group in West Leederville, offering peer connection, information, and practical strategies for Carers navigating the complexities of BPD.

You will:

* Facilitate three workshops between January and June (3 hours each, 5:30pm–7:30pm )

* Have 3 hours of flexible prep time before each workshop

* Create a safe, trauma‑informed, culturally aware space where Carers feel heard and understood

* Share lived wisdom, tools, and insights that clinical services alone can't provide

* Participate in paid training, planning meetings and peer co‑reflection

* Help reduce isolation and empower Carers to build hope, boundaries and resilience

This is not a clinical role. It's leadership through lived experience.

What you bring

Essential lived experience:
You have supported a loved one who has BPD or BPD traits, and you understand the emotional landscape, relational challenges, and recovery possibilities of this journey.

Skills and attributes that will set you up for success:

* Strong communication and facilitation skills

* Trauma‑informed practice

* Understanding of BPD and related concepts

* Knowledge of peer support values and principles

* Ability to maintain group safety and self‑determination

* Cultural awareness and sensitivity

* Reflective practice and self‑awareness

* Planning and organisational capability

* Experience in peer work, carer/family support, mental health, or group facilitation (highly desirable)

Why join MIFWA

* We are an endorsed Carer Friendly Workplace (Level 2) – your caring identity is respected and supported

* You'll be part of a leading peer workforce and a values‑driven organisation

* Your insights contribute directly to reducing stigma and strengthening families

* You'll develop facilitation skills, peer practice expertise, and real influence

Pay & Conditions

* Casual position | SCHADS Level 3.1

* Paid facilitation, preparation, planning, training and co‑reflection time

* January to June 2026 with potential extension and further facilitation opportunities

Ready to make a difference others will feel for years?

Applications close 19th of December; shortlisting will commence as applications are received. Please apply as soon as possible if you are interested. For enquiries, contact **************@mifwa.org.au

Apply with your CV and a brief statement describing your caring experience and why peer facilitation speaks to you.

Because no one should have to face BPD alone.
