Overview
Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Officer - Database Systems and AI.
Join the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science atThe University of Queensland.
This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position for up to 3 years, based at the St Lucia Campus.
Base salary will be in the range$82,057.75 - $109,246.18+17% Superannuation(Academic Level A).
Key Responsibilities
Conducting original research in AI-enhanced data systems.
Developing intelligent storage, indexing, and query optimisation techniques.
Translating research into deployable prototypes and open-source tools.
Publishing in leading conferences such as ACM SIGMOD and PVLDB.
Teaching (20%) and supervising research students.
Engaging with industry and academic collaborators.
This is a research-focused position.

About You
A PhD (completed or near-completion) in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline, with demonstrated research strength in data systems, AI for databases, or large-scale data infrastructure.
Expertise in core database system techniques, including indexing, query processing, and system-level optimisation.
Proven ability to conduct system-oriented research, with experience designing and evaluating complex, data-intensive systems.
Strong programming and system design skills, particularly in C++, C, Java, and Python, with hands-on experience in large-scale data frameworks or database internals.
Demonstrated research impact, with publications in top-tier international peer-reviewed journals and conferences (e.g., ACM SIGMOD, PVLDB).
Collaborative and independent work capabilities, with experience contributing to high-performing research teams and cross-disciplinary or industry-focused research projects.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage time effectively, meet goals, and build strong academic and industry relationships.
The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, education check.
