Overview
We are seeking a Youth Worker to join the Altone team and provide positive, meaningful engagement for young people ages 11-18 at our energetic after-school drop-in.
Altone Youth Centre is a trusted service in the community, providing a welcoming space where young people feel safe, included, and connected. You will be part of a structured, supportive space where on the floor engagement and teamwork positively impact young people's sense of belonging in their community.
Key Responsibilities
* Working as part of a team to maintain a safe and inclusive drop-in environment
* Welcoming and engaging young people from a youth work perspective
* Shared supervision across various spaces within the centre
* Actively and effectively responding to dysregulation and support needs
* Assisting the Youth Project Officer to facilitate structured activities
* Setting up and packing down the space including maintaining food hygiene and cleaning standards
* Participating in team debriefs and contributing to continuous improvement of the service

* Ability to engage young people in an energetic youth-friendly environment
* Calm, fair, and consistent when responding to challenging behaviours
* Ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic, fast-paced space
* Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills within a team environment
* Understanding of trauma-informed practice, professional boundaries, and duty of care
* Willingness to facilitate activities such as cooking, art, and sport while following WHS protocol
About You – Selection Criteria
* Qualification in Youth Work, Community Services, or a related field
* Understanding of the support provided to young people accessing a drop-in service
* Cultural competency and experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds, including First Nations, CaLD, and LGBTIQ+ communities
* Current Working with Children Check
* Current Provide First Aid and Provide CPR, or willingness to obtain
* National Police Check obtained within the last 3 months
* Knowledge of, and ability to work within, the Youth Work Code of Ethics for Western Australia
