We integrate teaching, research, and scholarship with practice and policy development, while fostering engagement with all health professions. Our experienced staff, many of whom work in frontline healthcare services, make a real difference to the healthcare landscape in Australia and internationally. Our students gain practical, hands-on experience in dedicated clinical simulation facilities on the Westmead Campus and in the Susan Wakil Health Building on the Camperdown Campus.

Sydney Nursing School offers a supportive and collegial environment with many opportunities for professional development. We are committed to providing a workplace that is inclusive and diverse and we encourage applications from suitably qualified and experienced individuals, including women, members of visible minorities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and persons with disabilities. Applicants who are willing to embrace our vision and are interested in driving forward our strategy for continuously improving our research impact, student experience, and a respectful, collaborative, culturally safe and person-centred workplace culture are strongly encouraged to apply.

We are seeking a passionate academic to join our dynamic team as Senior Lecturer (Teaching and Research). This is a leadership role with a strong focus on teaching excellence, research aligned with the school's strategic priorities, and active contribution to the life of the school. You will play an integral role in the design, implementation and evaluation of the Integrated Indigenous and Person-centred Practice Theory and Curriculum into all aspects of the school culture. You will have demonstrable expertise of working with culturally diverse and minoritised communities, underpinned by a demonstrated and evidenced commitment to person centred practice. This will be essential to support collaboration with the Sydney Nursing School's strong and dynamic First Nations academics in shaping our curriculum and culture. This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about the development of person-centred cultures as a platform for integrated diversity, equality and inclusion in all aspects of our teaching and school culture. You will be someone who thrives in an enabling environment and is committed to person-centred cultures, patient safety, and impactful nursing research.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

* work with colleagues to focus on the implementation of the Integrated Indigenous and Person-centred Practice Theory and Curriculum and extend it's integration across the multicultural perspectives promoted by the school

* provide academic leadership for the embedding, evaluation and continuous improvement of the Integrated Indigenous and Person-centred Practice Theory and Curriculum Framework across undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

* coordinate, develop and evaluate curricula, learning resources and assessment approaches to improve teaching outcomes and embed person‑centred and culturally safe practices across the school

* provide leadership, mentorship and support, partnering with indigenous academic colleagues and the wider diverse community of the school, including guiding and developing curriculum development and research training

* build and maintain a reputation for academic excellence through independent, innovative teaching and research that advances Indigenous and person‑centred nursing practice

* establish and strengthen collaborative partnerships—with First Nations academics, health services, community organisations and research groups—to enhance the school's research profile and strengthen culturally responsive nursing education

* supervise higher degree by research students to successful completion, fostering research excellence and culturally safe scholarship

* contribute to a positive, respectful and culturally safe workplace culture that values diversity of thought, collaboration, excellence and inclusive practice

* actively contribute to advancing the school and university's strategic agenda, particularly in relation to reconciliation, student experience, research impact and culturally safe education

* engage in community and alumni outreach, contribute expertise to public and professional forums, and participate in scholarly and professional activities relevant to Indigenous health, person‑centred care and nursing education

* establish partnerships and engage in translational research that shapes policy, enhances practice, and supports impactful outcomes for Indigenous and minoritised communities

* undertake additional duties and contribute to projects appropriate to the level of the position, as required

* contribute to and lead scholarship in Indigenous and person-centred pedagogies, curriculum design, evaluation and translational education research that informs policy, practice and workforce development

* lead curriculum mapping, assessment alignment and evaluation activities to ensure the framework is coherently embedded, culturally safe, and aligned with accreditation, quality assurance and university strategic priorities.

About you

* a PhD in a relevant field of medicine and health

* demonstrated experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate nursing students, with a commitment to high quality person centred pedagogy

* a proven track record of applying person centred principles within academic environments, and the ability to apply these to curriculum design, teaching practice and evaluation

* experience of working with culturally diverse and minoritised communities, with a demonstrated understanding of cultural safety and culturally responsive education

* the ability to contribute to the implementation of new curriculum, particularly in a pivotal year for First Nations colleagues and the embedding of the Integrated Indigenous and Person Centred Practice Theory in all aspects of the work of the school

* demonstrated leadership in cultural awareness and cultural safety, including mentoring and willingness to support the development of our team in these areas

* significant experience conducting original research and engaging in scholarly activity

* strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build respectful relationships and collaborate effectively across a diverse academic community

* a commitment to supporting a culturally safe, inclusive, collaborative and high performing workplace.
