Overview

The Clinical Nurse Manager, working with Nurse Managers, is accountable for supervising nursing services for specific assigned units to ensure safe, effective, and efficient care. This key management team member's responsibilities include assigning, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating clinical care for the designated units. Performance is measured against objective criteria such as staff competence and ability maximization, including nurses, practical nurses, and other personnel.

Must have at least 2 years of experience, with management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities outlined below are not exhaustive and may include additional management and supervisory duties necessary for the role:

1. Develop, implement, and evaluate goals, policies, procedures, and standards of care for the units.
2. Oversee activities and duties of unit personnel to achieve quality results, patient satisfaction, cost-effectiveness, and budget compliance.
3. Incorporate total quality management principles into unit operations.
4. Assign work to staff members to meet patient care objectives.
5. Plan staff assignments based on personnel competency, education, and training to ensure continuity of care.
6. Facilitate communication among staff, physicians, and other community employees for coordinated healthcare delivery.
7. Maintain proficiency with relevant technologies to recommend new services, products, and equipment.
8. Manage personnel hiring, evaluation, discipline, and termination processes, adhering to community policies.
9. Ensure proper orientation and ongoing training for staff to maintain licensure and certification requirements.
10. Maintain personnel records and related documentation.
11. Create work schedules, including managing leaves and time-off requests.
12. Lead labor relations activities within the assigned units.
13. Assist in budget preparation, reporting, and other administrative tasks.
14. Participate in management meetings and policy development.
15. Apply advanced clinical knowledge, serve as a role model, and perform direct patient care when necessary.
16. Oversee and assist in patient care delivery, including emergency responses, staff training, equipment testing, and ensuring patient safety until additional assistance arrives.
17. Perform or assist with clinical treatments and procedures requiring expert judgment.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited nursing program and a current, unrestricted nursing license in the assigned state.

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing preferred; minimum of 2 years relevant experience (5 years preferred) demonstrating management potential and clinical proficiency.
