We're a family-run business, deeply rooted in values that span generations. As we expand, we're looking for an Assistant Irrigation Manager to join us on this exciting journey and play a pivotal role in the future of Rombola Family Farms in Nericon, NSW.
About the role:
The Assistant Irrigation Manager assists the Irrigation Manager in all aspects of managing the irrigation system. This includes the scheduling, operation, and maintenance of all irrigation equipment to ensure optimal water usage and plant health. This role involves supervising irrigation technicians, conducting system inspections, and troubleshooting issues. The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge of irrigation systems, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to water conservation and sustainable practices.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in implementing irrigation schedules aligned with crop growth stages, soil conditions, and weather patterns.
* Monitor soil moisture levels using probes, sensors, and manual checks, and report findings to the Irrigation Manager.
* Support fertigation programs by safely preparing, mixing, and applying nutrients and chemicals.
* Operate and maintain irrigation infrastructure including pumps, filters, valves, drip lines, and sprinklers.
* Conduct routine inspections, carry out basic repairs, and escalate major faults promptly.
* Assist with scheduled maintenance programs to minimise downtime and maintain system reliability.
* Inspect crops and fields regularly to assess water distribution, plant health, and soil condition.
* Collect, record, and report irrigation and environmental data from moisture probes, telemetry, and weather stations.
* Ensure irrigation activities comply with water licensing, allocation, WHS, and environmental requirements.
* Supervise and support seasonal irrigation staff, providing training, guidance, and promoting safe work practices.
Qualifications, Skills & Experiences
* Understanding of irrigation systems (drip, sprinkler, fertigation) in horticulture.
* Basic knowledge of crop water requirements, soil-water relationships, and plant nutrition.
* Mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting and repairs.
* Ability to collect, record, and report accurate data.
* Strong teamwork and communication skills.
* Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive mindset
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Proficiency in basic computer applications
* Flexibility in hours worked to achieve operational targets.
* Sound working knowledge of WH&S requirements.
* A current driver's licence.
