Electrical and Instrumentation Technician
We’re seeking an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician to join our team at the CBESS facility near Collie, Western Australia. CBESS is a major grid-scale lithium battery project aimed at stabilising the SWIS and supporting renewable energy integration. It connects to the Western Electricity Market via a local substation. Stage 1 (250 MW / 1000 MWh) will be operational in November this year, and when complete will be one of Australia’s largest commercial batteries, capable of storing around 500 MW or 2,000 MWh of energy. The project helps manage excess solar generation, supplies energy during peak demand, and provides grid services including rapid charge/discharge and inertia services to help stabilise grid frequency.
The role is residential; you will reside within a 1-hour drive of the CBESS facility. It is a Day Shift position, 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with on-call duties on weekends as part of a rotating roster.

What you’ll do
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems within the CBESS facility.
- Troubleshoot faults on PLCs, SCADA systems, inverters, transformers, and associated control systems.
- Perform testing, calibration, and loop checks of field instruments including sensors, switches, relays, and meters.
- Ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain detailed maintenance records and support asset management systems (e.g., CMMS).
- Assist in commissioning and upgrades of electrical and control systems as required.
- Collaborate with engineers, operations teams, and external contractors to ensure optimal performance of the facility.
- Comply with all safety, environmental, and operational protocols.
What you’ll have
- Trade qualification in Electrical with WA electrical license
- Cert IV Instrumentation
- HV switching certificate
- Current CPR/LVR training
- Previous experience in E&I; roles, preferably in power generation, renewable energy, or industrial automation
- Strong knowledge of low and medium voltage systems, instrumentation, and control systems
- Experience with BESS, inverters, or renewable energy systems is an advantage
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs;, and technical documentation
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and testing equipment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Valid class C driver's licence
- Strong commitment to HSE and maintaining a safe workplace
