Within the Rail sector our depth of knowledge makes us the ‘go to’ service provider for many of Australia’s leading operators. With our other company, ActivateRail, delivering Safeworking solutions in rail, and Sterling's heritage in rail this enables us to deliver a complete range of engineering, asset management, civil construction, project delivery and consulting services to our Rail client base.

We are seeking a Health, Safety & Environment Coordinator in a temporary part time capacity (2-3 days per week) to be located in our Rockhampton Office. Reporting to the HSE Manager, this role will focus on day-to-day requirements for our Central Queensland based operations.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

* Site audits
* Monitoring operational processes and worker activities
* Incident investigation and reporting
* Conduct risk assessments
* Hazard identification and mitigation
* SWMS review
* Client liaison (safety specific items) and other Stakeholder liaison if required (ie safety regulators)
* Communicating and implementing change and improvement
* Coaching and mentoring to supervisory and project staff regarding working safely and managing safe and compliant work sites
* Developing Toolbox safety talks (developing office specific initiatives if required)
* Managing upkeep and certification of office specific safety items – SDS, lifting equipment, harnesses, fire equipment, first aid etc
* Coordinating Training and Verification of Competency for key safety competencies for local workforce
* Contributing to company wide safety review and improvement initiatives (weekly meeting with national team, plus participation in annual review)

Required Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

* Relevant HSE qualifications/certificates (or a commitment to obtain)
* Experience in working with systems which comply with AS/NZS 4801:2001, ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO45001:2018
* Knowledge and experience of HSE systems in the rail, civil engineering and/or construction industries
* The ability to engage with employees at the front line
* Proven capability to direct site and work level staff as to their HSE responsibilities
