Customer Service / Timber Yard Team Member
Exeter Mitre 10 is an independent hardware store in Exeter Tasmania, that offers a complete range of D.I.Y home improvement and trade hardware products for home or weekend projects. The Exeter Mitre 10 team are there to support customers with their projects, gardens, builds, and their everyday purchases, with Mighty Helpful advice.
The store is locally owned and run and has been helping the Exeter community since 1990, and it's this long-term commitment it dedicates to team members and customers every day.
Vacancy
We are currently looking for a motivated Customer Service / Timber Yard Team Member for an ongoing full-time role offering 38 hours per week with availability for weekend work for the successful candidate based at our store in Exeter.
Responsibilities
* Deliver exceptional customer service across the store and timber yard, handling routine and specialist queries and complaints in a professional and helpful manner
* Provide knowledgeable product advice to assist customers in making informed purchase decisions
* Assemble orders for trade and retail customers, including selecting, measuring, and cutting timber to specific dimensions
* Serve customers in the yard, answering questions, providing product information, and assisting with loading
* Replenish, rotate, and present stock to visual merchandising and planogram standards
* Conduct accurate Point of Sale transactions in accordance with procedures
* Sort, stack, and organise timber by type, size, and grade to ensure easy access in the yard
* Operate forklifts, side-loaders, or other authorised machinery to move stock
* Safely load and unload trucks, trailers, and machinery with timber and building materials
* Maintain clean and organised aisles, work areas, and the yard in accordance with WHS regulations
* Assist colleagues as required and ensure all work is completed accurately and within agreed timeframes
Qualifications and requirements
* Previous experience in a timber or construction environment (preferred)
* A current Forklift Licence (or willingness to obtain)
* A current White Card (Construction Induction Card)
* Gas Refilling Certification (or willingness to obtain)
* Demonstrable interpersonal skills to engage professionally with customers and team members
* Basic maths skills for measuring, calculating, and stocktaking
* The ability to perform heavy manual labour and lift heavy objects
* High stamina for repetitive lifting and working outdoors in various weather conditions
* A dependable and punctual work ethic with a strong focus on speed and accuracy
* A willingness to adapt, learn, and continuously improve performance
* The ability to work effectively in a busy environment as part of a team
