The role of Director, Office of Australian War Graves is a critical one in ensuring the establishment and maintenance of war cemeteries and graves in Australia and overseas. The Director will be responsible for administering the activities of the Office of Australian War Graves and providing high-level policy advice to the DVA Executive, the Repatriation Commission, and the Minister for Veterans' Affairs.
The ideal candidate will have exceptional senior executive skills, with the ability to lead and manage a Branch responsible for the Department's commemorative activities both within Australia and overseas. They will need to provide strategic direction-setting and leadership capabilities, as well as have a good understanding of project and event management issues.
Some of the key duties of the Director include:
* Administering matters concerning the responsibilities of DVA in relation to war graves and commemorative activities
* Providing high-level advice on relevant issues to the Deputy Secretary, Veteran, Family and Stakeholder Experience, and as required to the Minister, and the Repatriation Commission and Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission
* Providing leadership to the Branch to deliver priority initiatives and outcomes
* Ensuring that Australia's interests are effectively represented in relation to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC)
* Building mutually beneficial relationships with the ex-service community and other stakeholders
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-engagement screening check and obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 2 (AGSVA) security clearance.
