The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is a not-for-profit, community-based organisation that includes Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, AURA, Narmbool, the Australian Centre for Rare Trades and Arts, and the Australian Centre for Gold Rush Collections. It cares for a nationally and internationally significant collection of over 150,000 objects and preserves the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Victorian gold rush.

Position: Tour Guides (Mine & Surface)
Tour Guides are responsible for providing visitors with an accurate representation of the gold mining era of the Ballarat Goldfields. This involves delivering historic information through working and static displays, guided and self-guided tours, and various exhibits both above and below ground. Tours are conducted in English and other languages such as Mandarin, and applicants with additional languages, including Auslan, are encouraged to apply.
Department Details
The Mine and Surface Guides department includes tour ticket sales, operating machinery, conducting tours on the surface and underground (700 metres of underground drives), and operating major visitor transport systems such as the inclined rail and quartz mine train, both of which guides are trained to operate.
Position Requirements
Deliver tours in English; second languages including Auslan are an advantage.
This is a casual position, ranging from 4 to 7.5 hours per day.
Shifts are typically a couple of times a week, increasing during school holiday periods.
Applicants must be available to work rotating shifts including weekdays, weekends, public holidays, and school holidays.
Comfortable working in an underground environment for approximately 45 minutes, with groups up to 33 people of various ages and backgrounds.
