Head of Underwriting and Pricing – Travel Insurance AU & NZ
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Underwriting and Pricing to lead the underwriting and pricing functions within Australia and New Zealand, with responsibilities extending to global clients. This role is critical in driving technical excellence, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining market competitiveness and profitability for the Travel Line of Business (LoB).
You will own and execute remediation activities aligned with our Travel LoB strategy and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams across the travel business to drive digitisation, process improvements, and technical excellence in underwriting and pricing.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee underwriting and pricing for new and renewal deals in Australia, New Zealand, and global clients, partnering closely with sales teams.
Ensure proper deal pricing and support approval processes for all APAC deals requiring senior-level authorization.
Lead underwriting and pricing for large commercial accounts, including banking clients across AU and NZ.
Collaborate with actuarial and pricing teams to monitor tariff-based book performance and initiate adjustments as needed.
Ensure compliance with Allianz underwriting guidelines and standards.
Drive remediation of underperforming accounts and manage portfolio monitoring activities.
Support portfolio margin projections and conditional product risk assessments.
Liaise closely with actuarial and product teams to ensure effective reserve evaluations and smooth product rollouts (e.g., Simplicity product).
Champion digital tool adoption in underwriting and pricing such as Salesforce and pricing tools.
Collaborate on capacity planning and prioritisation to align underwriting and pricing efforts with business strategy.
Requirements
Actuarial or financial background required.
Minimum 5 years of experience in underwriting, pricing, portfolio monitoring, or related insurance roles.
Travel insurance industry experience is highly preferable.
Experience working with banking clients is a strong advantage.
Proven experience managing virtual and multinational teams.
Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.
Openness to working across diverse international cultures.
