The Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Australia (ICCIAUS) is seeking to appoint an experienced and highly professional Secretary General to lead the Chamber's operations and support the strategic direction set by its President and Board.
The Secretary General is a statutory and executive role, central to the governance, management, and effective functioning of ICCIAUS, and plays a key role within the global network of Italian Chambers of Commerce Abroad (CCIE).
The Role
Reporting directly to the President and working in close coordination with the Board, the Secretary General acts as General Director and Administrative Director of the Chamber. The role is responsible for translating policy decisions and strategic objectives into operational outcomes, ensuring sound governance, financial integrity, and organisational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide overall executive leadership and governance of ICCIAUS
* Implement the Chamber's mission, strategic plans, programs, and initiatives
* Act as the principal operational link between the President, Boards Members, staff, and stakeholders
* Oversee administrative, financial, accounting, and compliance functions
* Prepare and manage budgets, financial controls, and reporting
* Ensure transparent, efficient, and effective use of public and private funds, including government contributions
* Manage, recruit, and develop staff and oversee consultants and service providers
* Support members and stakeholders, strengthening ICCIAUS's role in promoting Italian–Australian business relations
* Ensure compliance with internal regulations, local legislation, and CCIE requirements
* Participate in meetings of the Chamber's governing bodies (excluding the Board of Auditors)
Selection Criteria
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
* Proven senior executive or general management experience, preferably in chambers of commerce, institutions, associations, or international organisations
* Strong leadership, organisational, and financial management capabilities
* Demonstrated experience in governance, compliance, and stakeholder engagement
* Strategic mindset with the ability to deliver operational results
* Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills
* Full professional fluency in both Italian and English (written and spoken) – mandatory
* High standards of integrity, independence, and professionalism
* Full-time availability and absence of conflicts of interest
Employment Conditions
* Full-time position based in Sydney, NSW
* Employment conditions in accordance with Australian legislation
* Appointment subject to approval by relevant Italian authorities, as required under Law 518/1970
