The role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will lead design management activities for several infrastructure projects across Australia. You will ensure Symal's design management process, standards of technical compliance, quality, cost, safety, sustainability and environmental performance are observed and that time schedules are met.
There are also opportunities to work on renewable energy infrastructure such as wind farms, BESS and civil infrastructure projects such as road and rail. This role is based at our new South Melbourne Head Office.
Responsibilities
Ensure all Symal's design, engineering and third-party approval obligations are met in accordance with the project requirements.
Manage the overall design phase to ensure the design is completed to scope, on time and to budget in conjunction with the project Commercial Manager.
Ensure the design is produced in conformance with the Design Specification and other contractual objectives.
Produce, with the Project Manager, a detailed Engineering Work Schedule detailing milestones and key dates derived from the contract program.
Implement value management recommendations, record and document value management realised benefits.
Prepare accurate and timely narrative monthly reports that contain design movements, changes and progress and status of design exceptions when required.
Resolve interface design issues and nonconformances.
Manage the delivery of project design and implementation.
Qualifications
Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or similar with an extensive background in delivering complex design and construction projects within civil infrastructure.
Demonstrated capacity to identify, manage and mitigate the key design risks of solar infrastructure projects.
Knowledge of mechanical and chemical stabilization methods—such as lime, cement, or fly ash treatment—and skill in identifying opportunities to reuse excavated or marginal materials to reduce imported fill and minimise environmental impact.
Well-developed commercial, business, conceptual and analytical skills.
Great communicator—written and verbal.
Sound understanding of typical construction specifications used in the Victorian construction industry.
Good commercial acumen—proven expertise in establishment and governance of commercial contracts with a large number of design partners.
