. We are seeking to establish a pool of English Teachers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Northam Senior High School (SHS) stands on the bank of the Avon River and has a proud history of providing a comprehensive curriculum to students in Years 7-12 from Northam and surrounding Wheatbelt districts. With over 650 students, we are the largest school in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. Our vision is "A Community United", and we work in partnership with students, staff, parents/carers and the community to establish positive and productive relationships. Northam SHS focuses on embedding trauma-informed and restorative practices to prioritise student belonging, voice and mastery in a strengths-based model.

Responsibilities
Teach English to students across Year 7–12, contributing to the delivery of engaging teaching, learning and assessment practices.
Collaborate within the English team and with the broader school community to meet academic and social-emotional needs of students.
Utilise current and emerging technologies to enhance teaching and learning and employ strategies such as explicit teaching, cooperative learning, differentiated instruction and inquiry learning.
Demonstrate reflective practice and a commitment to inclusive education, fostering growth mindsets and student progress for all learners.
Qualifications and Experience
Hold an eligible teacher qualification and registration for the WA teaching context.
Strong professional knowledge of the Year 7–12 Western Australian English Curriculum.
Experience with Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) courses, including ATAR, General and Foundation courses, or relevant literacy intervention experience.
Belief that all students can reach their potential and a range of effective instructional strategies to foster inclusive practice.

Mobility and Eligibility
Mobility appointments for permanent metropolitan and south west teachers: eligible permanent teachers may undertake a 3-year mobility appointment with a right of return to their substantive position. At the end of the mobility period, teachers may return or transfer permanently to the school.
South west teachers note: eligibility for moves within the south west is restricted during this trial.
To work with us, you must hold an eligible teacher qualification and registration, be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with work rights for the term of the appointment, apply for a WA Working with Children Check, and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number from the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.
