As a key member of our Building Services Team, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our community safe, ensuring building compliance across the shire, and maintaining the quality of our built environment.
In this role, you’ll:
o Conduct inspections and lead enforcement activities in line with the Building Act
o Engage and educate the public, builders, and property owners on compliance matters
o Mentor colleagues and support emergency response efforts
o Be a go-to source of knowledge for internal stakeholders, working closely with our Municipal Building Surveyor (MBS)

What you will bring to the role
You’re a technically strong Building Surveyor who combines expert knowledge with a calm, consultative approach. You know how to work with people, not just regulations—and you take pride in doing work that matters.
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:
o Comprehensive knowledge of the Building Act 1993 and related legislation
o Demonstrated experience in inspections, compliance, enforcement, and stakeholder engagement
o Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust with the community
o Excellent organisational and recordkeeping skills, including report and brief writing
o Resilience and flexibility to manage after-hours emergency call-outs as part of a roster

Key Selection Criteria
Mandatory Qualifications, Experience and Requirements
o Tertiary qualifications as a Building Surveyor and current registration with the Victorian Building Authority (Limited or Unlimited)
o Minimum 3 years experience as a Registered Building Surveyor
o Strong knowledge of rural and coastal building compliance matters
o Substantial experience in the public building sector, with demonstrated expertise in building inspections, regulatory compliance, enforcement actions, emergency response, and complex case management
o Experience with Salesforce and Greenlight highly desirable

For this vacancy, preferred candidates will be required to undertake pre-employment screening, including a Declaration and Consent to a National Police Check (including potential international criminal history check), Qualification Check.
