About the Role:
As a Disability Support Worker, your role will involve supporting a client with complex medical needs requiring specialised care, including:
Medical Conditions:
* Huntington's Disease
* High falls risk
* Meal preparation and monitoring according to modified diet and mealtime management plan
* Schizophrenia
* Faecal and urinary incontinence
Behavioural Challenges:
* Verbal aggression
* Refusal of personal cares or medication at times
* Smoker and is at risk of causing injury to herself with burns if left unsupervised
Responsibilities:
* Personal Care & Medication: Assist with hygiene, continence care, and medication adherence using positive reinforcement.
* Meal Preparation & Monitoring: Ensure meals align with the modified diet and supervise for safety.
* Compassionate Support: Provide care with empathy, patience, and respect, ensuring the client feels valued.
* Independence & Engagement: Encourage skill-building activities while promoting autonomy where possible.
* Health Monitoring & Documentation: Observe physical and emotional well-being, promptly report concerns, and maintain accurate records
* Shift Schedule: MOC 1:1 with Active Overnights - Morning, Afternoon, and Night-Sleep Shifts Available.
About you:
* Compassionate & Patient: Build trust and provide respectful support, especially during times of care refusal or behavioural challenges.
* Calm & Resilient: Manage verbal aggression and high-pressure situations with confidence and de-escalation techniques.
* Skilled in Complex Care: Experience supporting individuals with Huntington’s Disease, schizophrenia, or similar conditions, including high falls risk and incontinence care.
* Safety-Focused: Ability to supervise high-risk activities, such as smoking, and implement strategies to prevent injury.
* Strong Communicator: Use clear, empathetic communication to encourage cooperation and provide consistent support.
Essential Requirements:
* Cert III or IV in Disability or Aged Care
* Current NDIS Worker Screening Check and Employee Working with Children Check.
* National Police Check (or willingness to obtain).
* Valid Australian driver’s license with reliable, comprehensively insured vehicle.
* Current First Aid and CPR Certificates.
* Proven experience supporting clients complex behaviors and disabilities.
* Experience supporting individuals with Huntington’s Disease, schizophrenia, or similar conditions, including high falls risk and incontinence care is highly desirable
