Join our Intensive Care research team as a Clinical Nurse – Clinical Research Coordinator and play a pivotal role in advancing critical care through world-class clinical trials. This role combines expert ICU nursing practice with research leadership, supporting groundbreaking studies that improve outcomes for critically ill patients.
About This Role
Your new role:
As the Clinical Nurse – Clinical Research Coordinator, you will play a key leadership role in supporting and delivering clinical research within the Intensive Care Unit. Working closely with ICU medical staff and multidisciplinary teams, you will coordinate and implement clinical trials while ensuring the highest standards of patient care, safety, and ethical research practice.
This autonomous role blends advanced clinical nursing with research coordination, requiring strong critical thinking, exceptional organisation, and a passion for evidence-based practice. You will provide expert oversight of research participants and contribute to the advancement of ICU care through high-quality research delivery.
Key Responsibilities

* Coordinate and manage ICU clinical research studies and protocols
* Provide advanced clinical care and oversight for patients participating in research trials
* Collaborate with ICU clinicians, research teams, and external partners
* Ensure ethical conduct of research and compliance with regulatory and governance requirements
About You
You are an experienced critical care nurse with strong clinical expertise and a passion for improving patient outcomes through research and innovation. You thrive in complex environments, demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, and are confident working autonomously while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
You bring leadership capability, strong communication skills, and a commitment to delivering safe, ethical, and evidence-based care within a high-acuity ICU setting.

* Demonstrated understanding of clinical research processes and Good Clinical Practice
* Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
* Excellent organisational skills and high attention to detail in documentation

About Us
The Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) Intensive Care Unit is regarded as one of the leading adult specialist facilities in Australia. With 28 funded beds (26 ICU beds and 2 HDU beds) on average and over 2,300 annual admissions, the ICU has the highest surgical throughput of any hospital in Australia and New Zealand. All major adult specialities are provided with the exception of burns and obstetrics. The Intensive Care has used clinical information systems for many years and the Princess Alexandra is the first Australian hospital to go fully digital.
The unit has a strong track record in leading and participating in large multicentre trials, commercial studies and investigator led research, with a strong research culture. The Medical Research Team offers a supportive and educational culture in the context of a clinically challenging and innovative environment.
