Cadet, Strategic Planner – Careers at Council
Location: Queanbeyan, New South Wales
Type: Full time (35 hours per week)
Salary: $874.13 – $1,285.76 gross per week + 12% super.
The position is a trainee grade 4 (10 of the QPRC Salary System 2025) with potential for performance-based progression. Candidates will simultaneously complete a free bachelor’s degree, paid by Council, while gaining practical experience in a growing industry.
In This Role You Will
- Contribute to the design of natural and built landscapes that incentivise population, agriculture and business growth through sustainably and equitably sited residential, rural and employment lands with appropriate infrastructure and environmental considerations.
- Work alongside experienced town planners to deliver projects that shape the built environment, protect natural assets and reflect community aspirations, making Queanbeyan‑Palerang a great place to live, work and visit.
- Assist in preparing strategic land‑use plans, urban design frameworks, planning proposals, facilitate community engagement, maintain natural and built heritage, assess development applications and provide input on planning controls.
We Are Looking For Someone Who
- Is enrolled in or currently completing a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning and meets the study requirements to attain completion.
- Can work independently and as part of a high‑performing team.
- Has strong communication, time‑management and customer‑service skills.
