Clinical Nurse Specialist – Mental Health Liaison
Position Profile:
We are looking for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to provide emergency psychiatric nursing assessment, care planning, and nursing management services for patients and their families presenting to the emergency department with acute mental health illness, including liaison with other agencies to support safe discharge.
Ideal Candidate
* Eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
* Has extensive and recent experience in acute mental health nursing, providing risk assessment, crisis intervention, and management, including application of the Mental Health Act in practice, across the age range from children to older adults.
* Can demonstrate experience in liaising with community services to support acute safe discharge care for mental health clients and their families.
* Has advanced written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to support mental health clients, their families, and teams within the service.
* Ability to provide clinical leadership and facilitate effective teamwork within a multidisciplinary team environment.
* Demonstrates knowledge and experience in quality improvement and evidence-based practice and their application to mental health services.
* Has experience in the use of clinical applications and information systems to support clinical care and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Acts as a resource person for Mental Health Nursing issues within the health service, providing clinical advice and assistance in relation to patient management.
* Participates as a senior member of the nursing team and on relevant committees to plan departmental policies and objectives and recommend innovative practices and evaluation strategies.
* Participates in the multidisciplinary decision-making process including matters pertaining to a patient's psychiatric care.
* Promotes and maintains lines of communication with relevant staff and agencies, both within and external to the health service.
* Participates in own ongoing performance appraisal, with the Nurse Manager, by setting own professional and work-related objectives and goals.
