Job Overview
The Regulatory Legal team provides expert guidance and support to our regulatory activities, including investigations under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (WHS Act) and criminal prosecutions for alleged contraventions of the WHS Act.
* Providing advice and guidance on evidence gathering, issuing statutory notices and investigation procedures (investigations)
* Assisting with the preparation of briefs of evidence (prosecutions)
* Working closely with government agencies when a prosecution is commenced
* Facilitating continuous improvement projects and identifying trends and capability opportunities for professionals
Key Responsibilities
1. Under limited direction, you will work closely with senior colleagues in performing their roles and provide client-focused specialist legal and strategic advice and support to staff on complex legal and policy matters.
2. You will resolve problems and manage risk effectively and manage workload in a manner consistent with the APS Values and Code of Conduct, internal procedures and relevant legislation.
Mandatory Qualifications and Experience
* Admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory (3 years or more post admission experience is desirable).
* A current Practising Certificate or ability to obtain one within three months.
