The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Chief People & Culture Officer, an opportunity now exists to join this small HR team as People & Culture Business Partner. The role is directly responsible for providing trusted and timely advice and guidance to MBS leaders, driving high performance, capability growth, and an engaged employee experience. This position acts as a trusted and influential link within MBS, ensuring we have the talent, structure and culture required to deliver sustainable results. Through data informed insights, proactive workforce planning, and effective coaching, the role supports in shaping team culture, supports change initiatives, and ensures the consistent application of People & Culture practices across Melbourne Business School.
The role has a broad generalist and hands on focus, advising and supporting leaders with people‐related activities across the whole employee life cycle, including workforce capability planning, reward and remuneration, employee and leader capability development, annual performance reviews, health and safety, culture, employee engagement and wellbeing, managing change processes, workplace conflict and people analytics, compliance and reporting. The role is influential in championing our guiding principles and expected behaviours, and will play an active role in the implementation of a future HRIS.
Your key areas of responsibility will include:
* Providing effective support as a trusted and influential advisor offering strategic and operational advice on all people and culture related matters
* Identify wellbeing and psychological safety initiatives focus areas and initiatives and implement those
* Drive and manage regular employee engagement surveys, associated reporting and outcomes
* Collaborating with leaders to champion and entrench the annual performance review process, ensuring goals are aligned to objectives and business priorities including behavioural expectations
* Contributing to the development and implementation of HR strategies
* Offering advice on industrial and employee relations, while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies
* Advising and supporting leaders to design practical current and future roles with the right capability and responsibilities to meet business needs within budget parameters
* Progress the development and embedding of leadership excellence across Melbourne Business School and support leaders with employee development initiatives to lift capability and engagement
* Managing and coordinating the implementation of effective organisational change in line with legislative requirements
* Analysis of HR data to identify trends and develop recommendations for improvement and for contribution to reports and score‐cards
* Continuous improvement of and further development of our HR systems, policies and processes.
* Involvement in various HR related projects as required
To thrive in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:
* Qualifications in HRM with mid‐to‐senior level experience in a generalist HR role
* A proven track record in developing and maintaining highly effective stakeholder relationships, establishing a reputation for being a trusted influential advisor and respected business partner
* Proven ability to interpret and apply a range of relevant employment legislation, providing pragmatic advice to management and employees using analytical and problem solving skills
* Solid understanding and experience in performance reviews, remuneration and employee benefits and how they influence employee engagement and culture
* Demonstrated experience in the creation and application of contemporary and best practice people‐related policies, procedures, practices and processes, with a keen eye for detail
* High levels of diplomacy and experience in dealing with demanding stakeholders where empathy, discretion and utmost confidentiality needed
* Experience conducting job evaluations/job sizing to identify appropriate remuneration based on industry benchmarking, with experience using Mercer/Hays or similar tool methodologies being advantageous
* Occupational Health and Safety experience
* Exceptional written, verbal communications skills
* Experience negotiation and influencing outcomes balancing competing priorities
* Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite including Excel
* Eagerness to explore AI tools to enhance productivity
* HRIS capability in EmploymentHero, HiBob, Elmo or similar
* Solid understanding of relevant legislation, including the Fair Work Act and Equal Employment and Anti‐Discrimination legislation
