**The Role**
The Commercial Policy and Practice team offers commercial positions within Commercial Policy and ASDEFCON & Contracting Initiatives areas. You will:
- Work as a part of a team directly supporting Defence business with best-practice commercial policy, tools and processes.
- Be responsible for contributing to a high performing team, developing and fostering productive relationships with stakeholders and clients, communicating with influence and driving for commercial outcomes that comply with Commonwealth Government legislation and policy requirements.
- The Commercial Policy team provides high level strategic commercial policy advice to a range of stakeholders including Defence Ministers, Senior Executives and Defence staff.
- The team develops and manages procurement policies, processes and guidance materials to support Defence in its mission to defend and protect Australia and advance its strategic interests.
- The Commercial Policy team works with other Government agencies to develop whole-of-government policies and ensure that Defence procurement policies and practices are compliant with Commonwealth legislation, frameworks and policies. ASDEFCON Policy Officer:
- The role of the ASDEFCON & Contracting Initiatives (ACI) Directorate is to develop and maintain the commercial elements of the ASDEFCON suite of tendering and contracting templates and manage contracting initiatives to reduce the cost of tendering and improve commercial outcomes.
- Our core business is to draft the basis for solicitation documents and contracts to be used in Australia's largest and most complex capability projects. Our work requires deep analytical thinking and the development of innovative solutions to implement policy and legislative requirements in a commercial setting.
- The ACI team also supports Defence's commercial function to provide procurement, contracting and commercial expertise and support procurement teams to enable Defence to meet its objectives, maximise value for money and meet legislative and mandatory policy requirements.

Commercial Policy and Practice (CPP) owns and manages Defence's procurement and contracting policy, processes, templates, guidance and commercial capability development. As a member of CPP, you will: develop and implement policy (include the development of contracting templates only ASDEFCON Policy Officer Role) that is consistent with legislation and Commonwealth policies, guidance and processes:
- Provide timely and accurate commercial and procurement advice (written and verbal) on complex policy issues that is tailored to meet stakeholder needs.
- Proactively identify areas to improve policy, guidance and processes, and demonstrate the benefits and rationale for change.
- Build and sustain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders and actively participate in team and group activities to deliver agreed outcomes; and
- Be confident and professional when engaging with stakeholders from the public and private sector, at all levels of seniority.
