Your role at St John of God Murdoch
As the Deputy Director of Nursing Specialist Services, you will have leadership and direction for the overall coordination and management of the Directorate to meet hospital objectives. The Deputy Director of Nursing is responsible for providing professional and operational leadership in all facets of nursing and midwifery service and practice and coordinating and supporting the quality improvement and risk management, accreditation and licensing processes. You will have oversight of the following teams:
* Quality & Risk
* Hospice
* Emergency Department
* ICU/CCU
* Maternity Services
* Specialist Nurses
* Cancer Centre
* Oncology Inpatient Ward
The Position
* Contributes to and promotes the development of the Hospital's goals, objectives, policies and standards.
* Provides clinical leadership to establish and maintain the highest standards of nursing practice in a patient focused environment.
* Develops, implements and evaluates quality programs and provides leadership and professional expertise to ensure nursing care is monitored against best practice standards.
* Oversee and assists in preparing annual capital and operating budgets for the nursing directorate and ensuring that financial and productivity targets are met.
* Investigates any variance in financial performance against budget and develops appropriate corrective strategies.
* Provides leadership and direction to caregivers building a culture of professionalism, accountability and quality service.
* In consultation with departmental Managers, ensure all Nursing Division, Hospital and departmental policies and procedures are implemented, reviewed and evaluated.
* Promotes continuing professional development of nursing staff and others within the directorate.
* Actively participates in all relevant clinical and non-clinical committees within and externally to the hospital.
* Monitors compliance with clinical practice standards and initiates corrective action as required.
* Supports Managers in ensuring the delivery of cost-effective nursing and clinical care.
* Maintains a spirit of trust and cooperative teamwork, essential to the effective delivery of nursing services.
* Provides leadership and direction in the implementation and review of quality and clinical risk management programs.
* Promotes and facilitates strong working relationships between the Nursing Division and accredited visiting medical practitioners.
* Responsible for the performance development and review of caregivers within the directorate.
* Ensures compliance with legal, professional and policy requirements governing the provision of health care and the role of nursing within service delivery.
You will hold strong leadership skills in the development and implementation of risk management systems and processes whilst building strong working relationships with nursing teams, medical practitioners and other key stakeholders. With high level conceptual and analytical skills in addition to advanced oral and written communication ability, you will foster a positive service orientated culture that encourages sound patient care and stewardship, focusing on innovation and productivity improvements. Senior management experience and leadership in an acute hospital facility is essential for the role to achieve and maintain National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards Accreditation and Department of Health Licensing. To succeed you hold current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Registered Nurse with post graduate qualifications in Nursing, Management or relevant discipline, or progression towards.
