Hays is recruiting a Mechanical Project Engineer for a Tier 1 civil builder to oversee the mechanical, hydraulic, and fire systems scope, including gas suppression systems, across 2 ground-breaking sites. 900KM from Perth you will be part of constructing the world's largest radio telescope project.
This is a once-in-a-generation scientific initiative, requiring cutting-edge engineering solutions in a remote environment.

The role spans construction and commissioning phases, ensuring compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
You will lead mechanical, hydraulic and fire subcontractor management, coordinate with other disciplines, and provide technical support to deliver a world-class facility.
Working with 30 other construction professionals & 5 engineers
Working on the building delivery side of the contract
Manage and supervise mechanical subcontractors on-site.
Oversee installation and commissioning of HVAC systems, i.e. chilled water systems, fire protection systems, compressed air and gas suppression systems.
Coordinate with electrical and structural teams for integrated delivery.
Notify stakeholders of test inspections and assist the quality team with documentation.
Undertake quality inspections and ensure compliance with standards.
Raise Technical Queries and resolve design/construction issues.
Prepare and submit progress reports to the Project Manager.
Ensure site safety compliance and lead by example in a remote FIFO environment
What you'll need to succeed
White Card and valid driving licence.
Ability to pass FIFO medicals and site inductions.
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
4–5 years' experience in mechanical engineering within construction or commissioning projects.
Strong understanding of Australian standards and codes for mechanical and fire systems.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory).
Experience in remote/FIFO projects is highly desirable.
Proficiency in mechanical design and commissioning tools.
Proven ability to manage subcontractors and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
Familiarity with document control systems and QA/QC processes.
Experience with AutoCAD and Navisworks.
Experience with Office suite
