About the Role
As the Parliamentary Accountant, you will support the organisation's financial management and reporting functions. Working closely with budget owners, you'll help deliver key management accounting activities, contribute to month-end and year-end processes, and provide expert financial insights that guide decision-making. This is a hands‑on role requiring strong analytical ability, exceptional communication skills, and a solid understanding of public sector financial frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as a trusted finance business partner to budget owners across multiple internal departments.
* Prepare internal budgets, monthly forecasts, and management reports.
* Deliver timely, clear, and accurate financial communication to stakeholders, addressing issues quickly and effectively.
* Produce monthly reporting packs, including financials, activity metrics, FTE data, variance analysis, and projections.
* Prepare financial reports and ad‑hoc analysis for senior leaders.
* Perform general ledger maintenance, including creation of account codes and cost centres.
* Support additional accounting tasks such as lease accounting, PPE revaluations, and system‑related projects (SAP).
* Interpret and apply relevant accounting standards, policies, and procedures.
* Complete ad‑hoc analysis and tasks as directed by senior finance leadership.
Skills & Experience Required
* Degree in Accounting, plus CA or CPA qualification.
* Extensive experience in financial/management accounting, ideally within state or federal government (essential).
* Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
* Experience preparing financial statements, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
* Proficiency in SAP or Oracle.
* High level of computer literacy with advanced Excel skills.
* Strong attention to detail and robust problem‑solving capability.
