The Role
We have an exciting new opportunity for a full time Gardener to join our passionate team at Milton Park Country House Hotel & Spa in the Southern Highlands.
Reporting to the Gardens & Grounds Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the property's heritage listed gardens, pools and spa are maintained to the highest quality standard that our properties are renowned for.
About Milton Park Country House Hotel and Spa
Located less than a two hours' drive from Sydney, Milton Park Country House Hotel and Spa is a hidden gem, tucked away in a secluded hilltop woodland on the eastern edge of Bowral. This 44-room hotel has an adjoining luxury wellness spa, 2 restaurants and an events and conference pavilion set within its sprawling 32 acres of lawns and heritage-listed gardens.
Currently closed for a renovation, Milton Park is undergoing a transformation that will showcase this luxury property to its full potential whilst honouring its long and prestigious history.
The role and key duties
* General gardening duties including regular planting, watering, pruning, and fertilizing of plants, shrubs, and trees;
* Undertaking general repairs and maintenance across the property, including maintaining lawns and hedges through mowing, edging, and trimming;
* Conduct weeding, mulching, and soil conditioning to keep garden beds in top condition;
* Identification and treatment of weeds, pests and diseases in both plants and turf;
* Prepare and implement schedules for planting, feeding and fertilisation of plants and turf assets;
* Assist with management of water and sewerage systems including tanks, pumps, filtration units, following compliance protocols;
* Working with and managing on-site contractors as required;
* Support the presentation of gardens for weddings, events, and guest experiences;
* Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and heritage regulations at all times.
Essential criteria required to be considered
* Proven experience as a Gardener, preferably in a luxury hotel, heritage-listed garden or similar high-end environment (essential);
* Formal qualifications in Horticulture (preferred);
* Extensive knowledge of horticultural practices, plant care, and landscape design;
* Ability to operate and maintain a variety of gardening tools and machinery;
* The ability to work effectively on your own and as part of a team;
* Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labour in various weather conditions;
* Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards;
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively on your own and as part of a team;
* Ability and willingness to commence work on a rotating roster including weekends and public holidays;
* Reliable vehicle to get to and from the retreat.
