Spine Surgical Fellowship for Orthopaedic or Neurosurgeons

The opportunity to hone your skills in spine surgery with a renowned team of specialists awaits. As a fellow, you will gain extensive experience in performing over 1500 open surgeries annually in both public and private healthcare systems.

This prestigious fellowship offers two positions for surgeons seeking further subspecialty training and experience primarily in spine surgery. Our esteemed trainers include Paul Taylor, Michael Kern, Andrew Miles, and Greg Cunningham, each with distinct interests in spine surgery.

You will have substantial exposure to Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery (MISS) techniques, including MISS, tubular decompression, percutaneous screws, navigation, LLIF, OLIF, MISS L5/S1 ALIF, TLIF, and PLIF. Regularly performed procedures also encompass spinal deformity surgery, motion preservation techniques (TDR, DSS), and intradural surgery.

The case mix predominantly consists of degenerative conditions, but trauma, tumour, AIS, and infective cases are common.

Your time with us will be filled with opportunities for professional growth and development. You will have the chance to lecture nationally and internationally at conferences, educational events, and for AO Spine regularly. A research project during your fellowship is highly encouraged, and every surgical patient is enrolled in an outcomes database offering multiple research opportunities.

You will have exposure to surgery in both public and private systems, outpatient care, and audit without an on-call commitment. Perioperative physicians and spinal-focused physiotherapists are part of our practice team.

We welcome applications from highly skilled surgeons who meet the essential criteria: registration as a Medical Practitioner with APRHA, Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent, and current rights to work in Australia. Medicare recognition as a provider is also required.

In return, you can expect reasonable remuneration and the opportunity to live in Perth, a vibrant city with easy access to sea, sand, food, wine, and a dynamic city life. Rural WA also offers incredible tourism opportunities.

Six- or twelve-month fellowship options are available, providing flexibility to suit your career goals.
