General Manager - Carbon Farming Projects Development
Outback Carbon is a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsui E&P Australia. Acquired in 2021, Outback Carbon identify and develop medium to large scale projects that deliver high value Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCU's). Working closely with local communities throughout WA, Outback Carbon plays a meaningful role in the sustainable capture and management of carbon dioxide through a variety of Emissions Reduction Fund (ERF) methods.
The Outback Carbon team have grown and comprise diverse skill sets such as forestry, botany, land restoration, farming & agriculture, project execution & delivery, business & commercial, geospatial and data analysis.
The Role
The General Manager - Carbon Farming Projects Development is accountable for ensuring the development and execution of project delivery and operational execution in the field of ACCU generating vegetation projects with various contractors. All of this is done in the context of ensuring all HSE, commercial, governance and compliance and economic targets are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and be accountable for the Carbon Project Operations team and the full lifecycle of quality vegetation-based ACCU generating projects.
* Oversee ACCU vegetation project activities from pre‐establishment through to implementation, scheduling, establishment and ongoing maintenance.
* Bring expertise in native revegetation, land restoration, forestry, carbon or broadacre planting programs—ideally with experience in challenging and marginal environments.
* Build, lead and develop high‐performing project and field teams, maintain high values and a healthy work culture.
* Provide detailed input to technical, operational and economic business cases for new project approvals.
* Demonstrate strong capability in contractor management and site operations and maintain a high HSE culture.
* Be commercially savvy, help set and maintain budgets and strategize future growth opportunities and find improvements in existing processes
* Contribute to the broader business strategy and growth. Identify new opportunities for innovation and broader technology take up including new carbon capture methodologies
* Participate in contract negotiations and contract execution with landholders and other partnerships
* Manage and maintain stakeholder relationships and engage with government, the local communities that we operate in, landholders, rangeland operators, custodians, farmers, suppliers of project services and community groups.
* Ensure QA/QC review of project documentation and implementation to help manage risk
* Ensure all regulatory requirements, approvals and standards are met
* Ensure all required audits and governance activities are undertaken according to project and company schedules
About You
* Proven experience delivering vegetation‐based carbon projects from concept through to on‐ground execution.
* Deep understanding of carbon farming, ecosystem restoration, revegetation, or plantation operations, supported by strong industry networks.
* Ability to coach and develop teams in practical delivery, operational planning and long‐term vegetation management.
* Strong interpersonal and engagement skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with contractors, landholders, neighbours, government bodies, industry groups and investors.
* Demonstrated integrity, values‐driven leadership and commitment to high‐quality outcomes.
* Well-developed business acumen
* Tertiary qualification desirable, but not a requirement
* Sound organizational skills, including multitasking, time-management and influencing without authority
* High level of proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a high attention to detail
* Background in Agriculture preferred, but not essential
* Be based in Perth but willing to work and travel to remote locations
