The Inspector is responsible for conducting professional remedial building inspections, diagnosing structural and waterproofing issues, determining root causes, and recommending cost-effective, compliant solutions. The role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving ability, accurate quoting skills, and proficiency with inspection software and reporting tools.
Inspectors work closely with clients to deliver clear, high-quality reports and quotations, support the sales-to-delivery process, and contribute to the company's reputation for technical mastery, safety, and integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Diagnosis
Conduct an average of 16 inspections per week(as allocated by the Head of Inspections).
Apply root cause analysis to identify defects, causes, and potential risks in accordance with WS Remedial Group standards.
Reference relevant Australian Standards, NCC provisions, and WS Remedial Group methodologies in all assessments.
Accurately document site conditions with photographs, sketches, measurements, and written findings.
Reporting & Quoting
Prepare inspection reports within 48 hoursof site visit, using approved templates and software (Simpro, MS Office).
Scope and quote remedial works in line with WS Remedial Group capabilities, ensuring cost accuracy and compliance.
Provide clear methodology, recommended products, and staged approach options in quotes.
Maintain an 80%+ quote conversion ratethrough effective client engagement and follow-up.
Client Engagement
Explain inspection findings and remediation options to clients in clear, non-technical language.
Build and maintain strong client relationships, delivering exceptional service from first contact to project handover.
Attend networking and industry events (as directed) to identify opportunities and build market presence.
Work with Project Managers, Sales Consultants, and Technicians to ensure smooth project handover.
Peer review quotes and reports prepared by other Inspectors for accuracy and completeness.
Participate in training, toolbox talks, and technical workshops to maintain up-to-date knowledge.
Contribute to process improvements, quality control initiatives, and safety culture.
Core Competencies & Skills
Technical Competency
Demonstrated experience in diagnosing and specifying remedial works in waterproofing, concrete repair, façade restoration, and associated trades.
Strong knowledge of relevant Australian Standards (e.g., AS 3600, AS 4654.2, AS 3740, AS/NZS 4858), NCC classifications, and WHS legislation.
Ability to analyse site and environmental factors impacting asset performance.
Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills
Proficient in root cause analysis and developing practical, durable remediation strategies.
Ability to evaluate multiple solution options with consideration for cost, compliance, and long-term performance.
Digital & Reporting Skills
Confident using job management systems (Simpro), MS Office Suite, and inspection/reporting software.
Accurate, high-quality report writing with correct technical terminology and photographic evidence.
Interpersonal Skills
Clear verbal and written communication, with the ability to adapt to technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong negotiation and client relationship-building skills.
Collaborative team approach, supporting peers and sharing technical knowledge.
Performance Standards
Inspections: Minimum 16 per week (averaged monthly)
Scope & Quote Timeframes:
Small to medium projects – within 2 business days
Large projects – within 5 business days
System Compliance: 100% data entry in Simpro with all required fields completed
Maintain professional presentation and uphold WS Remedial Group values at all times.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma of Built Environment Remediation Practices orequivalent advanced trade/professional experience in building, engineering, or architecture.
Minimum 3 years' experience in building inspections, construction, or remedial works.
Cert III in Waterproofing, Working at Heights, Confined Space, EWP/HRW licence.
Experience in remedial waterproofing, concrete repair, and asset durability solutions.
