Cape York Natural Resource Management (Cape York NRM) is seeking a dedicated and passionate Program Coordinator - Pest Management to play a pivotal role in driving the organisation's mission and objectives. Cape York NRM will host the Program Coordinator - Pest Management for the Cape York and Wet Tropics NRM regions, in collaboration with Terrain NRM (Wet Tropics), with funding provided through the Queensland Feral Pest Initiative (QFPI).
The role of the Program Coordinator - Pest Management is responsible for providing coordination and advice for feral pig projects across the Cape York and the Wet Tropics NRM regions. The Program Coordinator - Pest Management will work with key stakeholders, including Traditional Owners, farmers, graziers, Indigenous landholders, state and local government officers and researchers to share information, knowledge and opportunities to improve the coordination and delivery of feral pig projects for landholders across the Cape York and Wet Tropics NRM regions.
In particular, the role focuses on greater involvement of First Nations people in feral pig management and supporting knowledge and capacity building of First Nations land and sea ranger groups to undertake feral pig management work that delivers biodiversity and threatened species, cultural, productivity and biosecurity outcomes. The role may be required to deliver NRM projects outside this portfolio.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the delivery of the Regional Feral Pig Coordinator project for the Cape York and Wet Tropics NRM regions.
- Support regional and local feral pig management projects and programs, including support to land managers with planning and providing strategic best practice feral pig management advice.
- Support the planning and delivery of regional pest and biosecurity management strategies and plans.
- Coordinate collection of feral pig population data on pig distribution, impacts and control.

Desirable Qualifications or Experience:
- Current Australian Class C driver’s licence
- Ability to work flexible schedule, i.e. out-of-ordinary hours and weekends, as this role will require frequent remote area travel.
- A current Blue Card and criminal history check are required before the commencement of employment
- Legal right to work in Australia (citizen, permanent resident, or valid visa)
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and organisations on Cape York Peninsula.
- Experience working and/or living in Far North Queensland or on Cape York Peninsula would be an advantage.
You will be rewarded with an attractive annual salary of $91,790 + 5 weeks annual leave with 17% leave loading.
