Gadtech Pty Ltd is seeking a reliable and safety-focused Heavy Truck Driver to support our quarrying and ready-mix concrete operations. This role requires a high level of technical skill in manoeuvring heavy-rigid (HR) vehicles across Tasmania’s unique terrain, managing complex concrete chemistry during transit, and ensuring strict compliance with ANZSCO standards and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Advanced Vehicle Operation & Precision Manoeuvring
• Navigation: Manoeuvre heavy-rigid (HR) agitator trucks into tight, unstable, or complex construction sites (e.g., residential foundations and remote infrastructure) with minimal movements to prevent property damage.
• Terrain Management: Expertly manage engine power and gear selection to handle Tasmania’s steep regional inclines/declines while fully loaded, minimising wear on braking systems and retarders.
• Route Planning: Plan and follow efficient delivery routes to optimise fuel usage and ensure concrete remains within its viable window for discharge.
2. Specialized Technical Loading & Discharge
• Mix Integrity: Monitor and adjust the agitator drum’s rotation speed during transit to prevent concrete segregation or premature setting.
• Slump & Chemical Adjustment: Monitor \"slump\" (consistency) on-site; add water or admixtures in strict accordance with batching plant technical specifications.
• Hydraulic Control: Operate truck-mounted hydraulic chutes and tipping devices to deliver concrete precisely into pumps, formwork, or wheelbarrows as directed by the site foreman.
• Quarry Operations: Safely transport and unload quarry products and aggregates using hoisting and tipping equipment.
3. Quality Assurance & Compliance (ANZSCO Core)
• Document Verification: Review delivery dockets and batching certificates to ensure the correct concrete grade (strength/density) matches the customer’s order.
• Certification: Obtain authorized signatures for delivery acceptance and record any on-site product modifications (e.g., added water) for liability and quality tracking.
• Weight Compliance: Estimate payload weights (wet concrete vs. dry aggregates) to ensure the vehicle remains within legal Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) and axle-load limits.
4. Safety, Maintenance & Hygiene
• Pre/Post-Operational Checks: Conduct daily inspections of brakes, tires, and hydraulics. Document all findings in the Asset Management logbook and report defects immediately.
• Chain of Responsibility (CoR): Ensure all loads are securely stowed and covered to prevent material loss and road hazards.
• Drum Sanitation: Execute essential post-delivery wash-down procedures of the drum and chutes to prevent hardened concrete build-up, preserving vehicle capacity and safety.
Qualifications & Requirements
Licensing: Valid Australian Heavy Rigid (HR) or higher Driver Licence.
Experience: Minimum 1-year proven experience as a heavy truck driver, specifically within construction, quarrying, or ready-mix concrete sectors.
Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of road safety regulations, heavy vehicle compliance, and the mechanical operation of agitator systems.
Soft Skills: Excellent communication and teamwork skills for interacting with dispatchers, site foremen, and customers.
Physical Fitness: Ability to perform cleaning and maintenance tasks and navigate active construction environments safely.
