About the Role:

Barcaldine Regional Council is seeking a motivated and reliable Water Treatment Plant Operator to join our team in Alpha.

In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and monitoring of the Alpha Water Treatment Plant, ensuring safe, high-quality drinking water is delivered to the community in line with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

Key Responsibilities include:

* Operating and monitoring water treatment processes
* Managing chemical dosing to maintain water quality standards
* Collecting water samples and coordinating laboratory testing
* Maintaining plant records and operational logs
* Monitoring SCADA and telemetry systems and responding to alarms
* Conducting routine inspections of plant equipment
* Assisting with maintenance tasks alongside Council's plumbing team
* Participating in an on-call roster as required.

Location: Based in Alpha, with Regional Work and Travel as required.

Classification Level: Level 7 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream B) Award – State 2017 and the Barcaldine Regional Council Certified Agreement 2025.

Wage: Minimum base salary of $73,747.96 per annum + Superannuation (up to 12%) and relevant approved allowances.

Payment of Wages: Council employees are paid fortnightly.

Hours of work: 76 hours over 9 days with a rostered day off (RDO) every fortnight.

Leave Entitlements: Five (5) weeks annual leave per annum + 17.5% Loading. Fifteen (15) days Personal Leave (sick leave) per annum.

We are Looking for:

* Current QLD class 'C' Driver Licence
* Current General Construction Induction (White/Blue) Card
* Certificate III in Water Operations or willingness to obtain
* Interest in water treatment and plant operations
* Ability to work independently and take responsibility for plant operations
* Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
* A reliable individual with a positive work ethic
* Experience in water or wastewater treatment, plumbing, electrical, labouring, or civil works will be highly regarded.
