As theCultural Practice Officer, you will support Yorganop to provide culturally safe services to children, young people, carers, families, communities, and stakeholders. You will be part of a supportive and values-driven team, committed to child safety, cultural connection, and strengthening outcomes for Aboriginal children and young people in care.
You will be responsible for:
* Providing high quality cultural advice and direction to assist in informing decisions about the safety needs of all children in Yorganop's care.
* Actively seeking opportunities to provide information and advice that supports Yorganop's Cultural Framework to be embedded across the organisation and improve the organisation's cultural fitness.
* Working with children, carers, and Case Managers to prepare annual Cultural Support Plans for all children in Yorganop's care.
* Developing genograms of all children and young people supporting them to grow strong in their cultural identity.
* Guiding and supporting the development of Life Story Books for all children and young people, focusing on the cultural aspects of the Life Story Book. This includes cultural connections, language, and community information.
* Working with Case Managers in supporting foster carers in developing skills and knowledge in cultural responsiveness through consultations and training.
* Developing and delivering cultural training materials, and actively contributing to a culture of continuous learning and professional development to ensure practice knowledge and skills are evidence based.
* Ensuring consultations, plans, documents, research, and other records are maintained and recorded on Yorganop's systems.
You will work to ensure that children are fully involved in the creation of their plan, honouring their right to self-determination. Yorganop holds a strong importance on cultural security and development, so that the children in care can feel valued, respected, comfortable and safe.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
* Aboriginality is a genuine requirement for this position as defined under Section 50 (d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.
* Demonstrated high-level organisation skills, communication skills, writing skills and an ability to positively interact with Yorganop staff, clients, sector representatives and community.
* Proven experience delivering high standards of service and achieving strong client satisfaction.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal Islander and ability to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, families, children, and young people.
* A Tertiary Qualification in Community Services, Youth Service or equivalent and/or a minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role.
* Experience in working across diverse Aboriginal language groups is highly desirable.
Qualifications and licences:
* Tertiary qualification in a relevant field is preferred however unqualified applicants with a minimum of 2 years demonstrated relevant experience and skills working with young people with experiences of Out-of-Home Care will be considered.
* A satisfactory National Police Clearance that must be maintained for the duration of your employment and a Department of Communities Departmental Check (Departmental Record Check & Criminal Record Check) that must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
* A satisfactory Working with Children Check that must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
* Current Drivers Licence and the ability to drive in response to organisational needs. This requirement will continue for the duration of the employment in this position.
