The General Manager - Farming is a pivotal role within the organization, overseeing the entire cropping process across multiple growing sites. This position requires a high degree of autonomy and strategic thinking to drive business growth and success.

* Contribute proactively to production team discussions regarding varietal selection based on consumer demand, production capacity, and supply chain considerations.
* Manage new varietal trials and full supply chain analysis for presentation to senior management.
* Collaborate with the production team to design production schedules that balance market timing, volume, quality attributes, and internal capacity constraints.
* Participate in production team discussions to determine the detail of production systems to be implemented by crop.
* Monitor and ensure adherence to agreed production schedules to meet timely completion of all tasks for plantings.
* Regularly inspect plantings throughout the production cycle to guarantee routine performance to agreed standards and achieve desired outcomes.
* Liaise with the production team to adjust irrigation, nutrition, weed, pest, and disease control as needed in a planting.
* Monitor crop health and maturity to forecast volume and quality by week.
* Effectively communicate with outsourced agronomists and consultants to optimize crop yields.
* Coordinate with the maintenance function to ensure row cropping production teams have the highest possible equipment availability.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To excel in this role, you will require:

* A minimum 5 years' experience in a management capacity within the horticulture industry.
* Extensive production experience with row crops.
* Skilled at crop health, production planning, pest, and disease management.
* Tertiary qualifications in agriculture highly regarded.
* Excellent analytical skills with ability to analyze costs, P&L, and contribute to capital expenditure and farm expansion plans.
* Strong people management, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
* Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends and public holidays.
* Sound working knowledge of WH&S requirements.
* Attention to detail and a genuine sense of urgency.
